How to Replace a Commercial Drivers License in Alabama
An Alabama CDL replacement, or commercial drivers license replacement, is available to qualifying applicants whenever they discover their original hard card is lost, stolen or destroyed. Licensed commercial drivers must replace CDL license documents promptly to avoid potential problems, such as losing a job where driving is required or being ticketed for driving without a proper commercial license. Getting fined by law enforcement is far more expensive than getting a CDL replacement license right away.
An AL duplicate CDL license has the same privileges and designations as the original commercial driving privilege and can be obtained through different methods offered by the Department of Public Safety of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). Review the following sections to learn how to replace a CDL license as well as how much you can expect to pay for a new commercial driver license.
When do you need to get a duplicate CDL license in Alabama?
A CDL replacement can be necessary for many different reasons. If you discover a lost CDL drivers license, replacing it quickly can help you avoid the negative situations mentioned above. Sometimes a CDL replacement is required because the hard card gets damaged or worn to the point that it can no longer be read properly.
Occasionally, commercial drivers may need to replace CDL license credentials because of theft. If your license and/or wallet are stolen, ALEA recommends reporting the theft to your local law enforcement agency. Although reporting a stolen CDL is not required by law, getting a police report is for your own protection. Even after you obtain your Alabama CDL replacement, the thief can use your old license for identity theft or other fraudulent purposes.
