With an increasing number of DMV services being made available online, state DMV websites are becoming an increasingly important tool for meeting drivers’ needs and streamlining DMV processes. Some state websites are more successful than others in terms of providing customers with the necessary information and quick access to the services they need at all times, and to see which of them stand out from the crowd, DMV.com rated all 51 state DMV  websites across America. In this blog post, we take a look at the websites ranked 11th through 20th on DMV.com’s 2015 State DMV Website Rankings list.

DMV.com rated state DMV websites in four key categories: design, usability, services, and content. The results of the survey put Nevada’s DMV at 11th place, with a total of 82 points. Nevada is followed by North Carolina which was tied with Nebraska and the District of Columbia with 81 points each, Georgia (79), Michigan (78), Delaware (77), Colorado (76), Utah(75), and Vermont, coming at number 20, gathering 73 points.

According to the results, Nevada’s website content was pretty clearly explained and concise, and each online service was very well supported by links and detailed information regarding procedures and requirements. Another category where the Nevada website was successful was in regard to usability, citing logical menus that are clearly visible, which allows users to access the service they need or the information they are looking for easily.

When it comes to the other states on this list, North Carolina’s website got 20 out of 20 points for its design and content, the website is responsive and easy to use on tablets, laptops, smartphones and desktop PCs.

As far as weaknesses are concerned, the results show that most state websites in this group were outscored by the top ten sites in the online services category. This typically means that websites ranked between 11th and 20th position on the DMV Website Rankings do not have as many services available online, and in most cases, they don’t have the opportunity to make appointments online.

While these states provided a well rounded online experience for their residents, the main takeaway from this list is that they could improve with more online services – such as making it possible for drivers to make appointments online. Websites should also have a responsive design that loads quickly, has easily readable text and is not cluttered.
