How to Renew a Commercial Driver’s License in Wyoming
A CDL renewal must be performed in Wyoming once every four years if you would like to retain your driving privileges and your legal ability to operate a commercial vehicle. Should you miss the CDL expiration grace period and fail to complete your renewal prior to the expiration of your CDL, you will need to complete additional testing before a new CDL is issued to you. Therefore, it is important to learn when and how you can renew as renewing a commercial license is different by comparison to a standard class D license or even a commercial learner’s permit (CLP).
By learning the answer to, “What do you need to renew your CDL license?” you will be better prepared to perform your renewal as you will be familiar with the documents that must be completed and submitted to the Wyoming DMV.
When to Renew Your CDL License in Wyoming
A Wyoming CDL renewal must be performed once every four years in order to maintain the validity of your commercial drivers license. So long as you inform the Wyoming DMV of any changes to your mailing address, you should receive a notice reminding you to renew within 120 days from the date that your CDL is expected to expire.
You do not need this notice in order to submit a request for renewal, however, you cannot renew prior to the 120 day period.
Wyoming has a CDL expiration grace period of two years. If you renew an expired CDL license within or before that time period, you will not generally be expected to retake knowledge or road skill exams. However, if you attempt to renew your commercial drivers license after that grace period has passed, you will be required to start over and apply for a CLP, if you are still interested in holding a commercial license.
CDL Renewal Testing Requirements in Wyoming
When performing a CDL renewal in Wyoming, you will be required to complete a vision exam if you are visiting a DMV location for your renewal.
Additionally, skills test can be required at any time at the discretion of the examiner, but this is an unlikely occurrence. If your CDL has a hazardous material endorsement, you will be required to retest for the knowledge exam with each renewal.
Finally, if your CDL has been expired for more than two years, you will be required to apply for a CLP and start over, essentially having to pass all skills and knowledge tests related to your CDL and any endorsements that you need.

How to Renew Your Commercial Driver’s License by Mail in Wyoming
In Wyoming, a CDL renewal can be completed by mail once every eight years (every other renewal). However, you can only renew by mail if you do not possess a hazardous material endorsement as you must complete a knowledge exam at the DMV in order to renew that particular endorsement.
If renewing by mail, a vision specialist or a driver services examiner must complete the vision screening section of your application. Vision screenings must have taken place within the 12 months prior to the date of your application. To renew by mail, you can use the application that you will receive with your renewal or you can obtain an application online.
It may take up to 30 days to process your renewal application if you submit one by mail, so it is important to submit your renewal application early enough that you can receive your new CDL before your current one expires.

Wyoming CDL Permit Renewal Requirements
When asking, “How long is a CDL permit good for in Wyoming?” it is important to know that your CLP will only be valid for 180 days from the date that it is issued. Should you need extra time to practice operating a commercial vehicle before attempting to earn your CDL license, you can renew your CLP for an additional 180 days.
However, that renewal must take place prior to the expiration of the license. If you have already renewed your CLP once before or if your CLP expires, you will need to apply for a new CLP and complete your knowledge tests again should you still wish to pursue a CDL.
Hazardous Material Endorsement CDL Renewal Requirements in Wyoming
In order to renew a commercial drivers license with a hazardous material endorsement, you must submit proof of your TSA assessment approval every five years to the Wyoming DMV. You can schedule an appointment for the background check application and fingerprinting online or by calling 855-347-8371.
With each CDL renewal in Wyoming, you will also be required to pass the hazardous material endorsement knowledge test before a renewal can be issued. This test can only be attempted once you have completed the assessment and have been approved by the TSA.
Hazmat endorsement holders may have additional requirements, such as additional tests, background checks, medical certificates, etc. when renewing. Please discuss those here.
CDL Renewal Fees in Wyoming
Your Wyoming CDL renewal price will be $40, regardless of the class of your CDL or whether or not you have additional endorsements. The Wyoming DMV can accept multiple payment types, including check, money orders or cash. Some locations will also be able to take credit or debit card payments.
When performing a CDL license renewal, it is also important to be aware of the fact that it is common for employers to cover the cost of renewals, so long as your CDL is required to perform your job duties. However, while common place, this is not always the case. Therefore, it is important for you to review whether or not your employer will cover the cost of your license renewal.
