People who want to obtain a driver’s license in the state of Arizona have to be aware that the application procedure is undergoing some changes, and some of the old rules won’t apply any more. State legislators have proposed a new law, that is basically going to include private businesses in the driver’s license application process.
The House Bill 2183, that is sponsored by Rep. Karen Fann, and signed by Governor Jan Brewer has already signed it, is supposed to help people obtain driver’s licenses faster and take some of the pressure off the state’s DMV when it comes to issuing driver’s licenses. That’s why this is a bill that is expected to be accepted with pleasure by Arizona residents and DMV employees.
There is one specific change to DMV-related laws that is especially interesting and eagerly awaited. It’s the provision that gives businesses the authorization to process driver’s license applications. However, the licenses that will be processed by private businesses will be only temporary. After you apply for a driver’s license at a private business that has been authorized by the state, the DMV will send your license through the mail a couple of weeks later, if they establish that everything is all right with your application.
State legislators started considering these changes because they have noticed that a lot of fake driver’s licenses have been issued lately, and they had to do something about it. This bill addresses this issue, as well. The latest changes in the law propose that all offices across the state issue only temporary licenses, and after a certain period of time, applicants will receive their regular licenses through the mail from a central DMV office. This is supposed to prevent DMV employees from issuing fake licenses. Additionally, the DMV will start using facial recognition software to check whether someone has two driver’s licenses.
Private business owners are excited about these changes. Some companies already provide vehicle title services and customers have been asking them to start issuing driver’s licenses, as well. Businesses that want to get in on the action will have to meet certain requirements and will be vigorously monitored on a regular basis by the DMV, in order to make sure that all the procedures are being followed and no laws are being broken in the process.
Finally, these changes are definitely going to save driver’s license applicants’ a lot of time, and provide some additional income to private businesses, so it’s expected their implementation to go pretty smoothly.
