It is possible to hold different addresses on your driver’s license and your car registration card. As the procedure to change address is simple and user-friendly, you can do the changes on all documents quickly by submitting the same address change request form.

How do I change my address on my car registration?
Address changing in New Mexico is done with the same form for all documents related to drivers and their vehicles. The address change request form can be processed in person, by mail or fax, or it can be scanned and send by email. To change address on your car registration complete the following information in the Change of Address Request Form:
  • Drivers’ personal information

  • Year of manufacturing
  • VIN number

How do I change my address on my commercial drivers license?
You can change the address on your New Mexico commercial driver’s license by filling out the Change of Address Request Form and submitting it to a nearby MVD office in one of the following ways:
  • In person
  • By mail
  • By fax

Address change requests for CDL licenses cannot be submitted online via the MVD eservices system. The official address change on a CDL license must be made within 10 days from the moment the actual change occurred. Only the electronic database will reflect the address change after the address change request form is received. If you want to get a new license with your new address, you must finish the application for new commercial driver’s license.

Each change of your place of residence must be reflected on your personal documents, including your New Mexico drivers license. To change an address on a drivers license, drivers need to complete the Change of Address Request Form and submit it to the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) within 10 days.

All New Mexico applicants who wish to change their address and do not have current proof of citizenship in the U.S. can use one the following documents to change address in MVD records:
  • Original or certified copy of a foreign birth certificate with a notarized English translation
  • Valid permanent resident card issued by the United States Government
  • Valid Passport issued by a country of citizenship
  • Matricula Consular card issued after February 1, 2005 by the Mexican Consulate in Albuquerque or El Paso

Documents must be originals and must confirm lawful presence in the country and the state. They must also contain the physical address to be able to serve as evidence of the official address change of the non-citizen.
