Can I have different addresses on my driver license and my vehicle registration?

It is possible to have a different address on your driver s license and your car registration. Once you submit a change of address form with the Oregon DMV, your entire record will be updated with your new address. This means that your driver information and any car registered in your name will contain the updated address with the DMV. However, you do not need to replace the physical driver s license or car registration card. At your request, the DMV issues an address sticker for you to place onto your current driver s license to update the address. There is no charge for this sticker. For your car registration card, you must write in your new address onto your current card.

How do I change my address on my car insurance?

To change your address on your car insurance, you will need to contact your insurance company to notify them of your new address. Your insurance company may direct you to an online form to update your information, or they may ask you to mail in such a form. Each insurance company has their own procedures so contact them if you are unsure of how to perform an address change request on your insurance policy. You can also visit with your insurance agent if that is a possibility.

How do I change my name on my car registration?

You are required to change your name on your vehicle title in cases of marriage, divorce, domestic partnership and court order. The name change on your car title will automatically apply to your registration. To apply for a name change on your title you must:

Submit the original title.
Complete an Application for Title and Registration.
State on the application form that you are the same person requesting a name change and state the reason (marriage, divorce or personal change).
Pay the title fee

If you would like to request a name change on your Oregon driver s license, you must apply in person at the DMV and:

Provide proof of full legal name.

You must apply for a name change in person at the DMV. Changing your name on your Oregon ID card does not automatically change your name on your Oregon vehicle record, your title or registration. To make an official name change with the Social Security Administration, you can mail the following information or you may visit an SSA office near you:

You must present the original document or a copy certified by the issuing agency when applying for a name change with the Social Security Administration. There is also an Online Change of Address System, which is a paperless way to notify the DMV of your address changing. The form requires that you provide your new residence and/or mailing address. On the form to update your address, there is also an option to apply your new address to your voter registration information.

What documents do I need to present if I am a non-U.S. citizen changing address?

Both U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens are welcome to submit a change of address to the Oregon DMV via the Online Change of Address System. You are not required to provide any documentation to update your address information with the DMV. The updated information will be applied to your DMV record.
