5X

You are 5 times more likely to pass the DMV test after taking our premium practice test.

A Hawaii DMV practice test will help you know when you are ready to schedule your real test. This makes it a great study tool, allowing you to see which areas of the Hawaii Driver’s Manual you need to concentrate on and which areas you already understand. A study guide is also helpful when you practice for your driving test, as it allows you to review the material you will be applying when you drive on the road with a test administrator.

In this article, you will learn about our Hawaii permit practice test: what the benefits are and the types of questions that are included. As well, you will learn what you need to know about the test you will be taking at the DMV, including how to set up an appointment, what you need to bring and what the fees are.

What are the benefits of taking a Hawaii DMV practice test?

70 percent of first-time permit applicants fail the written test. Our Hawaii DMV permit practice test reduces the odds of failure significantly, making it five times more likely that you will pass. The DMV sample test works because it allows you to ensure that you have properly absorbed the material.

Going through the Driver’s Manual and our study guide is important, as this allows you to learn the information initially, but the only way you can be sure that you are ready to take the written test is by practicing. This lets you get familiar with the multiple choice format. Though the format is not designed to trick test-takers, it can be confusing if you see two similar answers and are unable to distinguish them.

Our Hawaii drivers permit practice test has an answer key, which will let you know what material you understand and what material you need to study more thoroughly.

What is included in DMV.com’s Hawaii drivers license practice test?

Our Hawaii drivers license permit practice test has 50 questions. These questions cover all of the material you will need to know in order to pass your written exam, including:

  • Safety requirements
  • When you need to yield
  • Road signs
  • Hand signals
  • Parking laws
  • What to do in the event of an accident

The driving test questions are formatted just like they are during the DMV’s exam, meaning they are multiple choice and True or False.

Hawaii Drivers License Test Rules and Requirements

The Hawaii written test has 30 questions. 80 percent is the minimum passing grade, which means you can get no more than six of them wrong. The Hawaii driving test questions and answers will only cover the material that can be found in the Driver’s Manual. If you fail the test, you will need to wait seven days before taking it again. All counties offer the test in English, but if you are unable to read, Hawaii County also allows you to take the test orally.

The written test does not require an appointment, but the road test does. Essentially, the road test will require you to use the material you learned about while studying for the written test. If you are younger than 18 years of age, you will need to hold your permit and engage in driver test practice for 180 days before you can take the road test.

How to Pass a Driving Test in Hawaii

There are three tests you will need to pass before you can get your driver’s license:

  • The Eye Exam
  • The Written Test
  • The Road Test

The eye exam is a simple medical test, which will not require practice. Our Hawaii DMV study guide helps you prepare for both the written and road tests.

For the written test, you need to understand the material outlined in Chapters 2-13 of the Driver’s Manual. This includes the topics you would expect, such as road laws and road signs, but it also includes topics like how to operate a vehicle around bicycles and pedestrians. The permit test study guide covers these subjects.

Several chapters of our Hawaii drivers test study guide help you pass the road test. Though you will need to study every chapter of the manual, you should pay specific attention to the chapters titled, “Visual Search Strategies,” “On the Road” and “Driving Tips”. These chapters explain driving habits not covered in the written portion of the exam.

What is included in DMV.com’s Hawaii drivers test study guide?

Our Hawaii learners permit study guide condenses the information that you will find in the Hawaii Driver’s Manual, making it easier to understand. Whereas the Hawaii Driver’s Manual is over 100 pages, the study guide is less than half of that. It also uses images that can facilitate learners who do not want to read dense blocks of text, helping people study simpler. This is particularly important in the road signs test study guide section.

Along with road signs, you will learn how to react to various traffic lights, the laws you need to follow and required safe driving habits. The study guide also covers how to properly use your turn signal, the road surface markings you should look out for and how to drive in bad weather conditions.

How to Use DMV.com’s Hawaii Drivers Permit Practice Test and Study Guide

Our Hawaii drivers license study guide is designed to help you learn the material you need to know quickly. This makes it less overwhelming than the Driver’s Manual, but if there are any subjects that you are struggling with, it can help to have the manual at-hand while using the study guide. The Driver’s Manual will allow you to go deeper on the material during your driving test study, while the study guide will help you move through the material more easily.

The Hawaii DMV test questions let you see how well you understand the material, but you can take it more than once. Going through the drivers license test questions multiple times allows you to further refine your knowledge of the material.

Free DMV Practice Tests in Hawaii

You can find a Hawaii learners permit practice test at the end of your Driver’s Manual. This can be helpful for permit applicants who are struggling with the material, but it does not provide an answer key for test takers. Our drivers ed practice test answer key allows you to understand exactly what topics you are answering incorrectly. This in turn will allow you to determine which areas of our study guide you will need to examine more thoroughly.

The Hawaii practice permit test questions can be answered as many times as you would like, as they are provided in a PDF that can be printed an unlimited number of times. You can also read the guide on any computer or mobile device.

How to Schedule a Drivers License Test in Hawaii

You need a Hawaii DMV driving test appointment for your road test, but not your written test. To schedule a road test in:

  • Hawai’i, you should call the phone number of the office you will be testing at. This service is offered at Hilo, Kona, Pahoa, Na‘alehu and Waimea.
  • Honolulu, you should use the county’s online appointment portal.
  • Kaua‘i, you should call (808) 241-4242.
  • Maui, you should call (808) 270-8080. If you are located in Hana, the number is (808) 248-7280.

There are driver testing locations in four of Hawaii’s five counties. Residents of the fifth county, Kalawao, may use Maui’s DMV facilities.

What to Bring to a Driving Test in Hawaii

Once you have successfully completed your Hawaii drivers license practice test and scheduled an appointment, you will be ready to go to the DMV office. You should bring documents that prove:

  • Your identity. This is commonly either a birth certificate or passport.
  • Your Social Security Number. You may use a Social Security Card, paystub, 1099 or W-2.
  • Your address. You may use bills, bank correspondence or any other official papers showing both your name and address. Whereas you only need one document proving your identity and SSN, you will need two that prove your address.

You will also need to bring a form of payment. Most locations accept checks, money orders, debit cards, credit cards or cash. Please note that if you are applying for your license in Kaua‘i, the DMV office will not accept debit or credit cards.

Hawaii DMV Driving Test Fees

Unlike in some states, the cost of your written and knowledge tests is not included in the fee you pay when applying for your permit and license. This is why many applicants choose to use a DMV learners permit practice test: instead of re-taking the test multiple times, you can study from the comfort of your own home and know the material well enough to pass your test the first time.

  • The written test costs $2.
  • The road test costs $10.

If you fail a test, you will need to pay the fee again for a retake.
