To replace your lost car title in Florida, you will have to ask for a replacement at the county tax collector’s office. If you still have the title, you need to surrender it to the tax collectors office to have it destroyed as a replacement title makes the old one invalid.
At the FL tax collectors office, you will need to:
- Fill out the application for duplicate or lost title, and send it to the tax collector’s office which you can download at the FL DHSMV website.
- Present proof of identity, such as an FL ID card or FL drivers license

Once you submit all the documents to get the replacement, the FL DHSMV office will process the application within five days. Then, you will receive your title by mail.

- Fill out the odometer reading on the current title, and on the sales price field write Gift.

- Follow the procedure to register your car.

If you got your motorcycle from a dealer, they will take of the titling process. If you bought your car from a private party, you will need to complete all the paperwork yourself.
