- Do I need to turn in my damaged car title?
- The damaged car title does not need to be returned to the Utah DMV. Upon signing the Application For Utah Car Title, the owner certifies that the vehicle title was stolen, lost, mutilated or made illegible. The original car title cannot be endorsed and transferred, used as collateral, or given to a lending association.

- How do I file a police report if my car title was stolen?
- If there is any reason to believe that a Utah car title was stolen, it is important to contact a local law enforcement office, either in person or by the phone. After reporting a stolen car title to the police, contact the DMV to notify them of the case. With both reports completed, a Utah car title replacement application and fee may then be mailed to the Division of Motor Vehicles Mail and Correspondence.

- A salvaged vehicle, where the cost of repairing exceeds fair market value, will be issued a distinctive title referred to as a “branded” title. To obtain a brandedused car title, the insurer, state, or other jurisdiction is in primary charge to declare the car “salvaged.†The Application for Utah Title allows the option of selecting a salvage title.

- How do I transfer my car title between states?
- For new Utah residents, the title transfer between states varies depending on the situation.
If an out-of-state leasing company or lien holder is holding the Certificate of Title, the Utah certificate of title is not necessary for an in-state registration. Instead provide the most recent registration, Safety and/or Emissions Inspection, and the VIN/HIN Inspection.
In other cases, simply provided the following:
- Original Certificate of Title or a completed Application for Duplicate Utah Title (completed by vehicle seller)
- Application for Utah Title (completed by vehicle buyer)

- How long does it take to receive my replacement car title after ordering online?
- After submitting the requirements via mail for a UT car title replacement, the replacement may take up to three weeks. After mailing, the new car title may be processed within one week of the DMV receiving it. After it has been processed, the new title may take between seven to 10 days in the mail.
