The state of Massachusetts does not allow drivers to attend traffic school in order to have their ticket dismissed. However, defensive driving school can be used to remove points from your driving record.

- How can I pay for my traffic or parking ticket?

Your traffic or parking ticket should contain information about where and how to pay it. For example, when it comes to parking infractions, you will be required to pay the ticket to the municipality where your ticket was issued. To pay traffic tickets, however, you have the option to pay for your citation either online or by mail.

Make sure to have a major credit card available for payment. American Express, MasterCard, VISA or Discover as well as an electronic check are accepted.

- How do I file a complaint when I believe someone has illegally accessed my DMV record?

If an unauthorized individual has accessed your drivers record, you can file a report with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles by calling their Telephone Center. It is recommended that you contact the RMV so that your information is not accessed illegally ever again.

The state of Massachusetts provides four ways in which you can obtain your driving record: by mail, phone, in person or online.
By Mail
If you wish to request your driving record by mail, you can submit a written letter to the address below:

Obtain a copy of your driving record by calling the RMV Telephone Center.
In Person
Visit any RMV office to begin requesting your MA driving record in person. Make sure to have payment readily available.

- How do I get a traffic ticket dismissed?

If you would like to try to get your traffic ticket price dismissed, then you will need to appear in court and plead ânot guilty.â You also have the option to hire a traffic ticket attorney to help fight your case and have your ticket dismissed.

If you wish to obtain another individual s DMV driving record, you can do so either by mail, online or in person. However, only certain persons are allow to request the driving record of another. These include the following:
- Insurance company
- Court or government agency (federal, state or local)
- An employer

- How do I reinstate my license if I refused to submit a breath/urine/blood test?

The process for reinstating suspended drivers licenses depends on the offense committed. For most violations, you will be required to make an in-person visit at your local RMV office. In some instances, however, you will need to meet with a Hearings Officer instead.

- How do I remove points from my driver’s license?

The Massachusetts RMV point system is what is known as âsurchargeable points.â In order to qualify for having surchargeable events removed from your driving record, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must have driving experience for at least three years.
- You last received a surchargeable event over three years ago.
- You have less than three surchargeable events on your record in the past five years.
- If you had any out-of-state infractions, the Merit Board was notified of them.
You may also reduce the number of points on your record by taking a defensive driving course.

If you have three surchargeable events on your Massachusetts driving record within a two-year period, you will face drivers license suspension. For example, if you have received three speeding tickets within a year, you will face a 30-day suspension.

If you need to retrieve information about your ticket, contact the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles and a driver s license representative will be able to assist you with your matter. If you know the municipality in which you received your traffic fines and ticket, you can also contact the court within that county.

- If my driver’s license was confiscated at the time of my DUI/DWI arrest, how do I get it back?

You will first need to complete your MA DUI suspension period before you can apply to have your driver s license reinstated. In some instances, certain drivers are eligible to obtain a hardship license.
After you have fulfilled all the requirements of your suspension including paying fees and attending an alcohol awareness course you can then proceed to reinstate your license. However, the process will vary depending on the type of conviction you have.

In Massachusetts, there are two types of DMV driving records:
- Unattested Driving Record Contains driving history information but does not include a validation stamp.
- True and Attested Driving Record Only for official use. Provided on a MA RMV letterhead with a validation stamp.

- What happens if I get traffic ticket fines and I have a CDL?

If you are a commercial driver who has been issued traffic fines, by law you will be required to immediately notify your employer of this incident. Depending on the offense you committed, you may also have your drivers license suspended. CDL drivers can lose their driving privileges if you have been convicted for any of the following:
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Refusal to take a chemical test
- Hit and run
- Committing a felony with your commercial vehicle

- What is the cost of a DUI?

The fees and fines you will have to pay depend on the offense you have committed. The penalties of a DUI/DWI differ, depending on whether this is your first offense, second offense, third offense, etc. Reinstatement fees vary and can easily range from $50 to $1,200.
Additionally, you must also consider the costs related to hiring a DUI attorney (if you deem it necessary), court fees and the installation of an Ignition Interlock Device, if applicable.
