Does my vehicle qualify for a smog inspection?

Hawaiian laws do not require that vehicles submit to smog inspection at the time of vehicle registration. Yet, all vehicles must pass a safety inspection and obtain a certificate, which they must provide at registration.

When you take your car for inspection, a blue temporary certificate will be issued to you, which indicates that you must correct all defects on your motor vehicle. To complete the safety inspection, you need to visit one of the authorized safety center, which are usually located at gas stations and carry the state inspection station sticker.
